These differences ofte n arise from varying screening and diagnostic strategies over time or acro ss populations\, care settings\, and types of patients. As a result\, popu lation health monitoring indicators\, such as disease incidence or quality -of-care metrics\, are biased\, leading to misinterpretations and potentia lly wrong public health decisions. This bias can also lead to incorrect es timates of the association between an exposure and a health event due to d ifferences in detection modalities of the event across exposure subgroups. In this talk\, I will discuss this bias\, its impact on cancer epidemiolo gy\, and how to prevent it.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nAt the end of this t alk\, attendees will:\n\n\n Know what is surveillance bias and several cond itions exposed to this bias\;\n Understand the impact of surveillance bias on cancer epidemiology\;\n Know the causes of this bias and how to prevent it.\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nArnaud Chiolero\, is an epidemiologist and public health physician (board certified). He is a full professor of population h ealth at the University of Fribourg and an adjunct professor at the School of Global and Population Health at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. He is the director of the Population Health Laboratory (#PopHealthLab) at the University of F ribourg and academic co-director of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSP H+). Initially trained as a medical doctor (MD) at the University of Lausa nne in Switzerland\, he trained in epidemiology at Erasmus University Rott erdam in the Netherlands (MSc) and at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø in Montreal in Can ada (PhD). He leads epidemiological research focusing on the life course e pidemiology of chronic diseases and public health surveillance.\n DTSTART:20250203T210000Z DTEND:20250203T220000Z SUMMARY:Cancelled - Surveillance Bias – When Appearances are Misleading URL:/epi-biostat-occh/channels/event/cancelled-surveil lance-bias-when-appearances-are-misleading-362394 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
