Although a few studios were recorded in pre-S ong texts\, it was during the Song dynasty (960¨C1279) that the studio had become a prominent cultural space for literati. It was both an object of s cholarly representation and the medium through which the literatus¡¯ everyd ay practices were affected. Even when Song literati had to be away from th e physical studio for reasons such as official service or sightseeing\, or when they could not afford a physical studio\, they were still engaged in constructing a temporary studio or even a virtual studio in their minds. \n\nThis talk thus focuses on the strategies that Song literati employed t o symbolically assert a separate space apart from the outside world and th erefore ensure scholarly enjoyment and mental delight in privacy even unde r unstable conditions.\n DTSTART:20250327T200000Z DTEND:20250327T220000Z LOCATION:room 1041\, 10th floor\, Sherbrooke 688\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3 A 3R1\, 688 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Hsiang Workshop on Chinese Poetics: The Studio in the Mind URL:/eas/channels/event/hsiang-workshop-chinese-poetic s-studio-mind-362590 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
