Many immigrants to Q uebec are well-educated and know multiple languages. Their plurilingual re pertoires are further developed when they learn French and English in Queb ec. The study investigated the experiences of ten plurilingual immigrants as regards their expectations and concerns through their investment in lan guage and integration.\n\nThe findings revealed that participants perceive d plurilingualism (after migration to Quebec) as cultural capital\, provid ing a sense of empowerment and resulting in the privilege of gaining easy acceptance in the new society and its labour market. Their unsuccessful em ployment scenarios and social adaptation\, however\, disproved (or challen ged) an earlier assumption.\n\nOverall\, examining participants’ narrative s brought out three themes which principally guided data collection:\n\n\n Investing in language learning strategies and cultural capital\n Re-negotia ting multiple identities in mobility\n Expressing a desire for greater soci al receptiveness.\n\n\nThe study has elucidated how immigrants’ linguistic and social integration into the economic and sociocultural fabric of Queb ec can be more seamlessly achieved. The implications of the study for lang uage teaching and learning will be discussed.\n\n\n About Mehdi Babaei\, Ph D Faculty Lecturer 51³Ô¹ÏÍøWriting Centre\n\n \n Mehdi Babaei is a Faculty Le cturer at the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøWriting Centre.
