Starting from the premise that participation is a property of citizenship and employing diverse appr oaches from several disciplines in McGill's Faculty of Arts\, the seminar offers a critical analysis of the assumptions and challenges of political participation in democratic societies. What does participation mean when v iewed from the contrasting perspectives of the mainstream and margins of s ociety? What counts as participation? What is participation for?
