 f three subjects\, Stochastic Control\, Optimal Mass Transport\, and Stoch
 astic Thermodynamics\, has allowed deeper understanding of the mechanism b
 y which physical devices (whether engineered or biological) can transform 
 heat gradients into useful work. We will highlight a geometric framework t
 hat allows quantitive assessments on the performance of stochastic thermod
 ynamic engines and we will focus on Brownian gyrating engines.\n	\n	The talk
  is based on joint works with Rui Fu (UCI)\, Olga Movilla (UCI)\, Amir Tag
 hvaei (UCI) and Yongxin Chen (GaTech). Research funding by NSF and AFOSR i
 s gratefully acknowledged.\n	\n	Biography:\n	Tryphon T. Georgiou was educated
  at the National Technical University of Athens\, Greece\, and the Univers
 ity of Florida\, Gainesville (PhD 1983). He is currently a Distinguished P
 rofessor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cali
 fornia\, Irvine. He is also Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnes
 ota\, where he held the Hermes-Luh Chair (2002-2016) and served as co-dire
 ctor of the Control Science and Dynamical Systems Center (1990-2016). Dr. 
 Georgiou is a Fellow of the IEEE\, SIAM\, IFAC\, and a Foreign Member of t
 he Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). \n
