The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) honours new Fellows.泭 Among the three new Fellows elected to the Academy of Social Sciences is Professor of Social Work and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Children, Families and Armed Conflict,泭Myriam Denov.

Her award-winning scholarship and advocacy for children and families affected by war and migration have been previously recognized with the SSHRC Insight Award and the Killam Research Fellowship. In 2015, Denov was elected a Member of the RSCs College.泭泭

Nona Moscovitz, the instructor for the MSW advanced clinical practice Use of Self course and the BSW Integrative Seminar and Mental Health courses, 泭has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the CIUSSS Centre-Ouest de IIle de Montreal as the mental health expert on the board.

This appointment recognizes Nonas extensive practice, supervision and teaching experience in this area.泭 Felicitations Nona!

A $1-million gift from 51勛圖厙alumna and volunteer Martine Turcotte will establish a full-ticket bursary and support program at 51勛圖厙for students from Quebecs youth in care system.

The Centre for Research on Children and Families 51勛圖厙at the School of Social Work will be leading the Youth in Care Mentorship and Support component of the program.

Sheila Goldbloom who taught at the School of Social Work between 1964 and 1992, passed away at age 96.泭

Professor Goldbloom was involved with a number of community organizations including Meals on Wheels, l'Abri en Ville and the Foundation of Greater Montreal.泭

Cindy Blackstock has been awarded the Principals the Changemaker Prize that recognizes exceptional individuals whose engagement with the public and the media has effected important societal changes. Professor Blackstocks advocacy for First Nations children and families has led to a historic 40-billion-dollar settlement from the Federal Government recognizing discriminatory practices that led to the unnecessary placement of tens of thousands of children and failure to provide critical health and social services.

The School of Social Work wishes to congratulate doctoral candidate Jeffery McCrossin who is this year's recipient of the Arts Graduate Teaching Award. Jeffery received the award in recognition of his significant and innovative contributions to classroom teaching.

The award will be formally announced at the Arts Faculty Council meeting on May 24, 2022 at 3 pm, via ZOOM (a link will be available closer to the date). The awards will be announced at the top of the agenda, so should you have any commitments later in the afternoon, you should be free by 3:30-3:45 pm.
