The School of Information Studies isvery pleased to announce that our PhD Student, Feng Fei, along with her supervisor Prof. Benjamin Fung (PI) and Prof. Catherine Guastavino (Co-PI) have been awarded $10,000 CDN funding from the 51ԹCollaborative for AI and Society (McCAIS) for their project, “City-scale Urban Sound Synthesis Using Multimodal Generative AI”. As part of theComputational & Data Systems Initiative, the award encourages interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and positively influencing the impact of AI on Society.

The School of Information Studies is happy to announce the incoming MISt student Liam Dearin as part of theIndigenous Student Librarian program. This programs offers a tuition waiver to an Indigenous student as well as part time employment as a student librarian or archivist at Concordia Library. The program is a partnership between McGill, Concordia and Univesité de Montreal.

Congratulations to David Medcalfe, a Master of Information Studies (MISt) project-stream student at McGill, who was selected as one of 14 national recipients of the 2025 Retail Council of Canada (RCC) Retail Education Scholarship. The award recognizes academic achievement, leadership, and professional experience in the retail sector.

He was further awarded a top-tier national prize, the “Lead the Way” award, sponsored by Costco Wholesale Canada.

Our School is currently recruiting new Sites, Site Supervisors, and Projects for our Winter Semester Practicum.

The SIS Practicum is a 3-credit, tuition-based academic elective course for 2nd-year Master of Information Studies students. It consists of a supervised work placement at an approved site, typically unpaid, with required course assignments (e.g., work logs, mid-term report, final paper). The fieldwork component is a total of 100 hours.

Congratulations to Muhe Yang, PhD in Information Studies student at the School of Information Studies (51Թ), has received a Fonds de Recherche du Quebec; Nature et Technologies scholarship, for their research (French/English): Soutenir l'activité physique à un âge avancé : Co-conception de technologies de promotion de l'activité / Supporting Physical Activity in Later Life: Co-Design of Activity Promoting Technologies.

The FRQNT scholarship is awarded on basis of research and academic merit.

Muhe Yang was also awarded a Wolfe Chair fellowship in April.
