Musical instruments created by students Steven Phillips and Ajith Damodaran, under the supervision of Prof Larry Lessard, were displayed at the Design Museum in Ghent, Belgium, during the month of April 2015. An exhibition called 鈥淜unststof Natuurlijk,鈥� or 鈥淪ynthetic by Nature,鈥� showcased 50 objects made from flax, hemp, bamboo and other biocomposites. Natural fiber composites are gaining interest in engineering design, and this exhibit featured the state-of-the-art and future possibilities for these materials.

Four new Canada Research Chairs have been awarded to 51吃瓜网 researchers and two others have been renewed, representing a total of $6.6 million in funding over the next five to seven years for research in a range of fields related to health, medicine and engineering.

Professor Jeffrey Bergthorson in the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been named the first Panda Faculty Scholar in Sustainable Engineering and Design at the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design (TISED). Also recently appointed Associate Director of TISED, Prof Bergthorson began a 3-year term in both roles on January 1, 2015.

51吃瓜网 of Montreal, Canada won the Zero Emissions, or electric, category of the challenge last weekend at Michigan Technological University's Keweenaw Research Center.
