Billings High \nSchool in Chateauguay\, spent a year as an exchange student with AFS\nin Barcelona and then graduated with first class honours from the\nDawson Co llege Liberal Arts programme.  She came to 51³Ô¹ÏÍøin\n1989 to study Canadi an history and political theory. After\ngraduating she took a gap year.  D uring that year she spent\ntwo months studying Italian in Sienna with the University of\nToronto\, wrote the LSAT\, spent the fall in Berlin auditin g classes\nat Humboldt University\, wrote the foreign service exam\, and s pent\nthe spring as an intern in the congressional and legal affairs\ndepa rtment of the Canadian embassy in Washington\, D.C.  She\nthen studied Civ il Law and Common Law at McGill\, studied for and\npassed the Quebec bar\, and then did her articles and got hired by\nMcCarthy Tetrault\, one of Ca nada's big law firms.  She\nspecialized in advising corporations on enviro nmental law issues in\ncorporate transactions.  After three years of very hard work\nshe joined the NAFTA environmental commission as an investigato r.\n In 2008 she returned to private practice at another big law\nfirm\, a nd now she runs her own consultancy.
