DESCRIPTION: \n\nThe Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is a volunteer base
 d program created in the 1990s by a geriatrician in the United States. The
  program started as a research model to prevent delirium in hospitalized o
 lder patients\, but continues as a structured\, volunteer based interventi
 on in hospitals across the world. The main goal of this program is to main
 tain cognitive and physical functioning of high risk older adults througho
 ut their hospitalization.\n\nThe unique aspect of HELP is that it engages 
 and trains volunteers to perform targeted interventions with elderly patie
 nts in a hospital setting. Interventions include daily orientation\, basic
  active range of motion\, meal set-up and encouragement\, and recreational
  activities. This allows patients to receive personalized and holistic car
 e that positively impacts their social well-being and recovery.\n\nVolunte
 ers undergo an intensive training that equips them with basic skills neede
 d to work in a hospital. The training and hands-on experience they receive
  can be transferable to various settings and can be used with a variety of
  patients. Many of our volunteers go on to have careers in health care\, w
 here they implement the valuable skills learnt during their time with HELP
