The success and impact of Outreach Network Event (ONE) 51³Ô¹ÏÍø

Representatives from across the university gather to break down silos.

On March 19 2025, representatives from faculties, departments, schools, and administrative units across the university gathered at Thomson House for Outreach Network Event (ONE) McGill. Organized by Branches – McGill’s Community Outreach Program at Enrolment Services – the goal of this event was to break down silos by promoting information sharing and networking.ÌýÌý

The organizers of ONE 51³Ô¹ÏÍøemphasized the importance of outreach and supports for students from equity deserving communities such as Indigenous students, students from Black communities, students with disabilities, students in/from provincial or state care, first generation students, socio-economically disadvantaged students, refugee students, and 2SLGBTQIA+ students.ÌýÌýÌý

While outreach is linked to recruitment, its true center lies in building and sustaining relationships with equity-deserving communities. McGill’s outreach efforts are a reflection of its social responsibility as a leading institution in Montreal and Quebec.ÌýÌýÌýÌý

These resources are meant to be valuable tools for those who work on outreach and will help facilitate collaborations across the university.Ìý

Following the presentations, participants were given time for networking opportunities. The denouement of the event was filled with energy as attendees made connections and found synergetic potential for collaborations.ÌýÌý

Branches received feedback from several participants who commented on how important and impactful the event was.ÌýÌý

Anamaria Cardona, Senior Manager Student Success and International Engagement at the School of Continuing Studies said, “I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank the Branches Team for organizing such a fantastic event. The Outreach Network Event hosted by Branches played a crucial role in broadening our perspective, helping us realize that the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøcommunity supporting this initiative could even be larger and stronger than we had imagined. We were introduced to many inspiring outreach projects at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøthat share similar values, aspirations, and goals. This event infused our project with renewed optimism and motivation, reinforcing our belief that we, at McGill, have the power to create a positive, meaningful and lasting impact in our communities.

With ONE 51³Ô¹ÏÍøfollowing the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøOutreach Symposium in 2023, Branches has become a hub for outreach and access to education across the university, leveraging both the relationships it has formed and the subject matter experts on their team.Ìý

The hard work and dedication to outreach by all participants of ONE 51³Ô¹ÏÍønot only contributes to university’s mission and principles, but also made this event so meaningful to those who participated as well as impactful for the they students serve.Ìý
