Astrocytes perform diverse functions through their el aborate structural and molecular properties. However\, the prescise mechan isms that create and maintain differences among astrocytes remain poorly u nderstood. In this presentation\, results will be presented showing the re markable anatomical and functional complexity of astrocytes in the brain u sing advanced electron microscopy and molecular techniques. Furthermore\, results will be shown demonstrating how mature neurons in the brain signal to neighbouring astrocytes to direct their molecular and physiological fe atures. This neuron to astrocyte communication is both necessary and suffi cient for astrocyte molecular diversification including the expression of key molecules including glutamate transporters and receptors\, potassium c hannels\, and water channels. Thus\, astrocytes receive important informat ion from neurons to ensure that they are properly specialized for nearby b rain circuits.\n\nSEMINAR POSTER\n DTSTART:20170208T163000Z DTEND:20170208T173000Z LOCATION:Room 2/36\, Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C7\, 3640 rue University SUMMARY:Keith Murai (McGill) - Anatomical and function dissection of neuron -astrocyte interactions in the mature brain URL:/anatomy/channels/event/keith-murai-mcgill-anatomi cal-and-function-dissection-neuron-astrocyte-interactions-mature-brain-265 362 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
